General Information


The Judge of the Whitfield County Juvenile Court is appointed to a four year term by the majority of the Superior Courts in Whitfield County. A judge must be at least 30 years of age, a citizen of the state for at least three years, and have practiced law for at least five. The judge is are required to attend a minimum number of hours of specialized training each year to maintain eligibility for the position. The training is certified by the Council of Juvenile Court Judges of Georgia.


It shall be unlawful for the judge of any juvenile court to engage directly or indirectly in the practice of law in his or her own name or in the name of another as a partner or in any manner in any case, proceeding, or matter of any kind in his or her own court or in any other court in any case, proceeding, or any other matters of which his or her own court has pending jurisdiction or has had jurisdiction. It shall be unlawful for any juvenile court judge to give advice or counsel to any person on any matter of any kind whatsoever which has arisen directly or indirectly in his or her own court, except such advice or counsel as the juvenile judge is called upon to give while performing the duties as juvenile court judge.


Specific Information


Connie Maples Blaylock is a native of Cohutta (Whitfield County), Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law. She was in the general practice of law for 6 and one half years and appointed, part time, as Judge of the Whitfield County Juvenile Court on July 1, 1996. Judge Blaylock became a full time Judge in Whitfield and Murray Counties on January 1, 1997.
